2018 Submission Guidelines

All Graduate and Professional Student applicants will be accepted. Please read the following submission guidelines to ensure proper formatting for your submission. Select the category in which your submission is best suited:

For 2018, two additional themed prizes will be awarded.

Weston Essay Prize: Awarded in partnership with the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights, the Weston Essay Prize recognizes outstanding essays that address issues of international human rights. Essays can discuss current events or history, law, public policy, or the arts & humanities. Submissions for consideration by both the Weston and the Jakobsen award committees must not exceed 10 pages. Submissions for consideration by the Weston award committee ONLY have no maximum page limitations.

Walder Award for Contributions to Research in Sustainability and Biodiversity: Awarded in partnership with Integrated DNA Technologies, Inc., the Walder Award recognizes outstanding research papers that are related to areas of sustainability, biodiversity, and/or bioremediation. The value of this award will be $500. 

Papers that are awarded one of these themed awards will not be eligible to also win a Jakobsen paper prize. 


University of Northern Iowa Students: If you would like to apply for the Jakobsen Conference, please email the Judging and Submissions Co-Chair directly. In your email, please include: your name as you would like it to appear, department, title of your presentation, abstract of your presentation (~1400 characters/200 words or less), division you would like to present in, and whether you would like do to an oral or poster presentation.
