Emmanuel Mensah
Biography
Emmanuel Mensah is a Master of Arts candidate in Sport and Recreation Management at the University of Iowa. He serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology and as the Graduate Student Senator representing the department within the University of Iowa’s shared governance system.
Emmanuel is a 2025–26 cohort NACDA McLendon Scholar, a prestigious national recognition awarded to emerging leaders committed to advancing diversity, leadership, and excellence in intercollegiate athletics. His academic and professional work centers on college athletics administration, athlete mental health and development, sport governance, and global sport systems.
His research interests include athlete well-being, life-skills education, global sport development, disability sport advocacy, sport analytics, and institutional leadership in sport organizations. Emmanuel has contributed to research examining the role of technology in enhancing sports performance in developing nations and has served as a Research Assistant with the African Paralympic Committee, supporting initiatives related to the implementation of the first African Para Games.
As a Graduate Student Senator, Emmanuel advocates for graduate student funding, assistantship structures, and equitable governance policies. He is passionate about leveraging sport as a vehicle for leadership development, systemic change, and global impact.
Through teaching, research, and governance engagement, Emmanuel seeks to bridge academic scholarship with industry practice while preparing for long-term leadership roles in sport administration and higher education.
