With help from GSS, the Main Library has created a dedicated study room for Graduate Students. The Graduate Study Room (3132) is on the north end of the third floor corridor. Any current graduate student with a valid uiowa ID card can access the room.

Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG)

GPSG represents UI’s nearly 10,000 graduate and professional students and advocates on their behalf to university administrators, the Board of Regents, the state of Iowa, and state and federal legislators. Their mission is to improve the experiences of graduate and professional students at the University of Iowa.

The Grad Success Center offers support to graduate students to ensure professional, academic, and personal success during your time in graduate school and beyond. Their support includes finding and applying for external grants and fellowships, finding and applying for jobs, and helping you communicate your research to a variety of audiences.

The Dean of Students (DOS) Graduation Support Program offers financial assistance for graduation apparel and materials for students who are experiencing a financial hardship and cannot afford to participate in graduation ceremonies at the University of Iowa.

The Veteran and Military Connected Community at Iowa works with more than 2,400 Veterans, dependents, and current service members attending the University of Iowa.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

The University of Iowa Tippie College of Business offers help to low- and moderate-income taxpayers in preparing and filing their taxes. Help is available by appointment only.

Health and Basic Needs Resources

- If you or someone you know is in need of emotional support, there are trained counselors available 24/7/365 to help address a variety of concerns.
- Childcare
- This link will take you to a webpage with a list of resources regarding childcare for students, postdocs, faculty, and staff at the University of Iowa.
- Subsidy Program for Student Families
- This program provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students with children to assist with costs related to childcare to allow students to better balance their academic responsibilities with family life.
- Clothing Closet at Iowa
- During each academic semester, any undergraduate or graduate student, postdoc, faculty, or staff member can obtain up to 5 free professional attire items to be used for interviews, jobs, class presentations, conferences and more. These 5 items are yours to keep forever, free of charge.
- CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank
- CommUnity Crisis Services offers resources including crisis helplines, food banks, financial support and youth crisis stabilization.
- Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP)
- DVIP provides services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and human trafficking.
- Food Pantry at Iowa
- The Food Pantry at Iowa offers free nutritious food and necessities for undergraduate or graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff. Available items may include fresh produce, protein, beans, pasta, canned fruits/vegetables, soups, breakfast items, snacks, and toiletries.
- International Students and Scholars (ISSS)
- ISSS offers services for international students and scholars, their dependents, the University of Iowa, and the surrounding community.
- Office of the Ombudsperson
- The Office of the Ombudsperson is available to undergraduate or graduate students, postdocs, faculty, or staff who have a problem or concern. They offer informal conflict resolution, mediation services, and advocacy for fair treatment and fair process.
- Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP)
- RVAP offers free, confidential, trauma-informed advocacy to individuals affected by sexual violence as well as promoting social change through prevention education.
- Student Wellness
- Student Wellness offers appointments, workshops, and events for students on nutrition, fitness, stress management, alcohol and drugs, tobacco/e-cigarettes, sexual health, and sleep.
- Title IX and Gender Equity
- This unit coordinates the University of Iowa’s response to reports of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct, including dating/domestic violence, and stalking when those reports involve members of or visitors to the university community.
- University Counseling Services (UCS)
- UCS offers mental health services to currently enrolled undergraduate, graduate, professional, postdoc, and non-degree seeking students at the University of Iowa. Their services include individual therapy, group therapy, relationship therapy, trans-inclusive services, referrals, and an Eating Disorder Network (EDN).
- Women’s Resource and Action Center (WRAC)
- The goal of WRAC is to create greater equity for individuals and communities of all identities, with a particular emphasis on women, through activism, social justice initiatives, leadership training, advocacy, service, and personal and professional development.

SLS offers several services in regard to legal advice and legal representation for students at the University of Iowa. Areas of practice include but are not limited to landlord/tenant disputes, criminal defense, expungement, traffic citations, divorce, contract reviews, consumer issues, name changes, civil rights and discrimination, protective orders, living wills/power of attorney, and immigration advice.

Legislative Action
Your thoughts as a graduate student at The University of Iowa are important. Please make graduate voices heard at the state level!
We encourage graduate students to support the University of Iowa in the state legislature by using the Hawkeye Caucus Take Action tab, or by contacting their state legislator directly.
We suggest the following tips for writing your legislator:
- Be succinct (several sentences—no more than a short paragraph)
- Discuss how your work at the university impacts the state, nation, and world
